A One-Day Seminar for Mental Health Professionals, Educators, and Parents, presenting a powerful approach that consistently produces extraordinary results for children with ADHD and other challenging behaviors… an approach that helps children to flourish in remarkable ways.
“This is the approach that I recommend.” -Patch Adams, Renowned Physician
Speaker, Howard Glasser, M.A.
Description: A child’s intensity is a gift that needs to be nurtured. Unfortunately, so many people today find themselves struggling with the intensity of a challenging child and wind up being advised to moderate the intensity by using medications as a first intervention rather than as a very last resort. I’ve developed an approach that puts parents and professionals into the driver’s seat and gives them the perspective and strategies to shift children into using their intensity in beautiful ways.
Many children wind up on medications simply because there has not been an approach that consistently helps them use their intensity successfully. 75% of all children evaluated for conditions such as ADHD and Oppositional-Defiance Disorder receive medication on the very first visit. The unfortunate underlying message is: your teacher can’t control you, your parent can’t control you, and you can’t control yourself… you need a substance to control whatever is going on inside you. Parents and teachers can end up feeling inadequate and blamed, treatment professionals can sometimes be at a loss as to how best to help, and the result for the child is being at risk for both side effects that can rarely be adequately explained in the course of an evaluation and for a greater loss of self than can ever be fully anticipated.
Ordinary methods of parenting and teaching typically backfire with intense children, accidentally rewarding children in myriad ways. Despite the best of intentions, the more adults attempt normal responses, the worse the situation can inadvertently become.
The culprits are the methods most people have at their disposal… not the parents, teacher or the child. Approaches designed for the average child are not powerful or encompassing enough to have a transformative effect on children with behaviors involving opposition, defiance or inability to manage strong impulses or emotions.
The excellent news is that The Nurtured Heart Approach has been proven to create the transformation very quickly and in an enduring way. Instead of believing that one gets a great deal more from adults through negativity, and that positive choices are less certain bet, the child is moved to believing that he or she can fully invest energy and intelligence in successes. Join us for this workshop and learn how this powerful approach can work for you. -Howard Glasser

TESTIMONIALS:
“The NHA training was extraordinary. There really aren’t words to describe it. It feels like such an internal process has blossomed in me. It is everything that I have studied and learned in my spiritual life come alive and made real. Deep in my heart I feel it is a gift from God, for everyone.” - Tami Gulland, CPE (Wisconsin)
“As I mentioned to you on one of the breaks, I am going through a spiritual transformation of the heart, and was WOWED by how your approach was talking to me on such a personal spiritual level. I was also WOWED in how it will begin to transformed my professional work with all clients. So, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.” - Susan Johnson, MFT (California)
“Howard… Thank you for all you did this week. I came to the Advanced Training, feeling knowledgeable about the Nurtured Heart Approach, but wondering how I could successfully inspire and motivate families to adopt the approach. After completing the training, not only am I confident in how to bring the approach to families, I realize that I have a far greater understanding of the concepts themselves, and how to practically apply them. I really appreciated the balance you achieved between structured and free flowing discussion, and I loved the various practical experiences with families, therapists and educators who have been successfully practicing the methods. I left the training with a portfolio of concrete ideas to bring back to my family and work. I think you were masterful in guiding the process, and in doing so in a manner which respected everyone and every idea. I certainly recommend this training to anyone who feels called to make the Nurtured Heart Approach a part of their personal and/or professional life.” - Thomas Nylund, MS (Illinois)
“Attending Howard Glasser’s Advanced Training Workshop was extremely energizing. Experiencing positive feedback for a week was a life changing experience. It raised my clinical and personal skills and power to a higher level.” - Karen Wassmann, LCSW (Florida)
“Hi Howie and Lisa – I have no idea if you have had any access to our group’s letters and notes to one another since our training. They continually come and have been beautiful and incredible testimonies to the power of your training and this work. I have been to many trainings and have seen the high that follows and eventually fades. This glow is not fading but continually grows brighter (exponential rainbows!)” - Penelope Simpson (New Hampshire)
“I feel richly rewarded by the techniques you gifted us with during the training. I came with head and heart understanding and now have the embodied (belly) integration of all the pieces that I was needing in order to really go forward. Appreciating you and your work.” - Donna Jenson MS (Washington)
“Dear Howie… Knowing what I know now about your Nurtured Heart Approach and ‘comparing’ it to how I was treated as a child has given me more opportunity fro healing; this alone was worth the entire week. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for ‘you’ and your very gentle and genuine manner in the conveying the truth that is in you. Your existence on the earth has, and will continue, to spare countless children the unbelievable turmoil and damage they experience by being criticized for being themselves, and, as a consequence of this, subsequently grow into adulthood with a tremendous amount of guilt, bad choices, and very little self-esteem. The repercussions of ‘you’ Howie are far, far reaching, and our world is a much richer, more loving place because of you, and your determination to save other children from what some of us have experienced.” - MSW (USA)
Overview
Most of my colleagues believe that a child’s intensity is a problem that needs to be treated with medications and made to go away. I’ve developed an approach that puts parents and teachers into the driver’s seat and gives them the perspective and strategies to shift children into using their intensity in beautiful ways.

Parents and teachers end up feeling inadequate and blamed as well.
Ordinary methods of parenting and teaching typically backfire with intense children.
Over the past few years the advanced training has continued to evolve and sculpt the growing edges of The Nurtured Heart Approach. The last few years have been enormously gratifying to participants in exploring the expansive realms of manifesting the greatness of others as well as manifesting our own greatness. So many have felt that in addition to further understanding the gifts of this approach the training was one best personal growth experiences of their life.
Learn the process of Transforming the Difficult Child with the creator and developer of The Nurtured Heart Approach. Our Five-Day Intensive Workshop is the very best way to integrate the depth and scope of this approach in its entirety in a short period of time.
This workshop is designed for those who wish to use the approach personally or professionally in arenas of treatment, in applications for school communities, for parent training and coaching and for use in leading workshops and seminars. This workshop will result in full authorization and certification for the professional use of the Nurtured Heart Approach. Again – It is required that all participants have either previously attended a one-day training and/or have read the book and have at least experimented with this approach in their personal or professional lives. This will allow us to work at a level of depth that will meet the needs of all attending.

Important Considerations
It is strongly advised that participants plan on arriving on the Saturday prior to the training. Best case scenario you will have the daytime hours Sunday to rest and to explore some of the splendors Tucson has to offer.
The Sunday reception dinner is a casual but beautiful event. It begins at 6 PM with informal mingling and wine in the Marriott lobby and continues with dinner in our banquet room. There is no cost to you for this event. The lobby reception is open to anyone you are traveling with, friends, partners and children. The dinner, however, is only for enrolled participants of the Advanced Training.
There will be an great party on Thursday evening at Howard Glasser’s home that is open to anyone you wish to bring. There will be fun, food and drink and it’s been a great way and entertaining way to unwind at that point in the week. Please keep that night open if at all possible.
